One of my favorite fiction books is Dune. The story is set in a desert world where because of energy shields, combat is all done by blades.
The original movie with David Lynch was atrocious, but the later Sci-Fi channel version was very good. The climax of the movies is a knife fight between Paul, the dune messiah, and the heir of the evil Harkonnens.
